Sony’s cheapest fast full-frame lens. The FE 50mm f/1.8 gives you background blur and two to three stops more light than a kit zoom for very little money — with the caveat that its autofocus is slow and noisy by modern standards.
Key specs
What’s a good price?
This item mostly sells near list price, with dips during manufacturer rebates (often Black Friday through the holidays, and spring). A good price is anything at or near its 90-day low on a price tracker such as Keepa or camelcamelcamel. We’ll add it to our price drops list when a meaningful discount appears.

FAQ
Is the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 good on an a6400?
It works well for portraits (≈75mm field of view), but on APS-C the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is usually the better buy: brighter, sharper and a more useful everyday focal length.
Why is the FE 50mm f/1.8 autofocus slow?
It uses an older DC motor that moves a relatively heavy focusing group. Later Sony lenses use faster linear or stepping motors.
